The Center operates a field station 350 miles north of Claremont off the Tioga Pass road between Yosemite National Park and Mono Lake. The station is in a high hanging valley among pines and sage, a hundred yards from a large aspen grove, and adjacent to a small ephemeral stream and meadow. Just down the road you overlook Tioga Pass and Mono Lake. Nearby, and a little higher you are in the granite nearly at the upper treeline. The station is inaccessible during the winter, but during the summer students and faculty use the facility as housing and a base of operations for thesis research, faculty research, and for summer internships with agencies in the area. |
