Analyst Comments
The European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS) provides significant evidence of environmental responsibility in its 2007 Corporate Social Responsibility Report and Code of Ethics. Since the adoption of ISO 14001, as of 2007, 56 sites have been certified and 80% of the EADS workforce operates under an Environmental Management System. EADS participates in the "Clean Sky" Joint Technology Initiative, a research project aimed at reducing noise, emissions and the fuel consumption of aircraft. EADS also funds research projects in air and space technologies through its Corporate Foundation for Research. The foundation promotes interdisciplinary research between private industry, government and universities in addition to providing scholarships and awards to exceptional doctorial candidates and scientists. The foundation also supports "Science in the schools" a program attempting to create a more positive image for science in grammar and middle schools. Another significant investment that EADS has made in its community is the "Aviation Sans Frontières" program. This program provides air transport for seriously ill children. Although the above mentioned programs do provide a context for EADS’ image of social and environmental intent, EADS needs to disclose more information on steps it has taken to further its sustainability activities.
