Analyst Comments
Expeditors International of Washington is a company dedicated to quality service with maximum employee and customer satisfaction. The company should be applauded on its proposed environmental initiatives including green house gas reduction goals, carbon footprint calculation, and participation the US EPA clean trucks program. However, while Expeditors’ website provides good qualitative environmental information, discussion of these topics is very brief. It would be extremely beneficial for Expeditors International to elaborate on the specifics of their environmental policy and action. Quantitative values regarding waste production/disposal, recycling, renewable energy, environmental monetary savings, etc. are not reported in any form. Employees would appear to be a top priority for Expeditors, however the corporate website does not provide any information on the specifics of employment regarding workforce profile, work hours, lost workday rates, or accident rates. A commitment to safety is mentioned in the Health, Safety, and Environmental statement, in the briefest form possible. Detail ought to be provided on specific company health and safety policies. The Code of Conduct very briefly mentions employee entitlement to community involvement. Expeditors international however does not appear to intimately support any sort of community involvement or education. Information on any direct company-community interaction would be beneficial. It would do wonders to the company image as well as sustainability score if it were to provide more environmental and social information, as well as elaborate on the material currently available. Analyzed by Teija Campbell Mortvedt, and posted to the web on 3/24/2009.
