The Environmental Policy adopted by Questar focuses the company’s environmental efforts on meeting all requirements and regulations of environmental laws, training and informing their employees to ensure environmentally responsible practices in the work place, prevent pollution and work to minimize their environmental footprint. Questar also takes initiatives to protect the areas in which its employees work. In Nine Mile Canyon, Questar Pipeline consulted experts on Tavapits in the region and thus made the decision to move their new pipeline in order to conserve the historical artifacts and diverse wildlife of the area. The company also implements revegetation efforts in areas affected by its operations, and Questar encourages conservation among its costumers. The company website provides energy saving tips such as changing the filter on home furnaces, lowering the temperature on water heaters, and installing programmable thermostats to decrease energy use. The ThermWise program also seeks to increase energy conservation. This program offers customers home energy audit programs as well as rebates for increasing energy efficiency. While the Questar Corporation is dedicated to environmentally sustainable business practices, the company website lacks information on recycling, energy consumption, water usage, waste disposal, and pollution. Questar Corporation works to maintain socially responsible business practices. The company’s Code of Conduct seeks to provide equal opportunity for all employees and protect against corrupt business practices such as bribery and political contributions. Questar aims to provide a safe and healthy working environment through the implementation of safety training for all employees and contractors and an in depth incident reporting and tracking system. Questar is committed to community development through employee volunteerism and community education, and its employees have dedicated their time to tutoring underprivileged children, providing holiday meals to homebound seniors, and stocking the local community food pantry. The Questar Education Foundation funds scholarships and construction at universities and colleges in the company’s service area. Although Questar is clearly dedicated to its employees and the community, the website is missing information regarding the workforce profile, certain human rights issues such as working hours, forced labor, and fair compensation, and incident reporting. It would be beneficial for Questar to provide more specific and quantitative company social data on its website. Analyzed by Carolyn Campbell, and posted to the web on 9/29/2008.
